The legendary German brand was founded in 1949 by Adolf ("Adi") Dasseler in Herzogenaurach. He derived the name Adidas from the letters of his name Adi Dasseler. 

The story of this brilliant visionary, however, began much earlier, specifically in 1920, when the twenty-year old Adolf built his first workshop in his mother's former laundry room. Four years later, brother Rudolf joins him and assists with the management of a factory registered under the name Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory. Adolf designs shoes and Rudolf takes care of the company's operation. The first international success comes at the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928. Adolf Dassler presents his shoes here and celebrates huge success with the athletes who win in Dassler's shoes and also receive medals at the next Olympics in Berlin in 1936. Phenomenal Emil Zátopek also ran to get his three gold medals in Adidas shoes at the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952.

After the war, the brothers fall apart due to disagreements, and Rudolf sets up his own company, the equally famous, Puma. There is tough competition between both brands from the very beginning.

Famous Adidas is successful. The greatest sports stars work with the brand. These include, for instance, legendary boxer Muhammad Ali and football wizard David Beckham. Its ambassadors also include well-known artists. American musician Pharrell Williams is another star participating in the product design. Beyoncé also announced partnership with the brand.

In August of 2019, Adidas celebrated 70 years since its establishment, and it's story is truly incredible. At the beginning, there were 47 employees and today the global empire employs 57,000 people around the world. 

In 2006, another famous brand, Reebok, became subsidiary of Adidas.
